System security issues can put your personal data at risk. The most effective way to address these issues is by updating your SeekBox firmware to the latest version. This guide will walk you through the local USB update method — simply install the firmware upgrade package from a USB drive to improve system security. Watch the video tutorial below, then follow the written instructions for a complete walkthrough.

Before You Start: Prepare a USB flash drive with 4GB or more of free space. Make sure the USB drive is formatted as FAT32 or NTFS.
Step 1: Download the Latest Firmware Package
First, download the latest SeekBox firmware upgrade package from the official source below. This package contains all the security patches and system improvements needed to address security issues:
Click the Download Firmware button above to download the latest SeekBox firmware package to your computer.
Wait for the download to complete — the file is a .zip firmware package.
Verify that the file name matches the firmware shown above (oppen-ota-eng.dell.zip).
Confirm this is the correct firmware for your SeekBox model (S3 Pro).
Important: Always download firmware from official SeekBox sources. Using third-party firmware can brick your device or introduce malware.
MD5 Checksum Verification:
After downloading the firmware file, we recommend verifying the MD5 checksum to ensure the file is complete and has not been corrupted during download.
If the MD5 of your downloaded file does not match the MD5 shown above, please clear your browser cache and try downloading again. A mismatched MD5 usually indicates an incomplete or corrupted download.
Official Notice: SeekBox will regularly release updated firmware packages with the latest security patches and system improvements on this page. To check if your device is up to date, go to Settings > About on your SeekBox and compare the build number with the one listed above. If the build number on this page is newer than your device's build version, we recommend downloading and upgrading to ensure optimal security and performance.
Step 2: Prepare the USB Drive
Properly preparing your USB drive ensures a smooth and successful update process:
Insert your USB flash drive into your computer.
Back up any important data on the USB drive — the process may require formatting.
Format the USB drive to FAT32 (recommended) or NTFS if the file is larger than 4GB.
Copy the firmware upgrade package file to the root directory of the USB drive (not inside any folder).
Wait for the file transfer to complete, then safely eject the USB drive from your computer.
Tip: Make sure the firmware file is placed directly in the root of the USB drive (not in a subfolder) so the SeekBox can detect it automatically.
Step 3: Connect the USB Drive to Your SeekBox
Now connect the prepared USB drive to your SeekBox device:
Make sure your SeekBox is powered on and on the home screen.
Locate the USB port on the side of your SeekBox.
Plug the USB drive into the USB port.
Wait a few seconds for the system to recognize the USB drive.
Step 4: Open the Updater App and Select Local Firmware
The SeekBox comes with a built-in Updater app that lets you install firmware directly from a USB drive. Here's how to use it:
From the home screen, find and open the Updater app (look for an icon labeled "Updater").
In the Updater app, select the Update Local option.
The app will scan your USB drive for firmware upgrade packages.
Select the firmware upgrade package from the list.
Review the firmware version information and tap Install or Update Now to confirm.
The system will begin verifying the firmware package — this process may take several minutes as the system checks file integrity and compatibility. Please be patient and do not cancel or exit the app during verification.
Note: After tapping "Update Now", the system will verify the firmware package before installation starts. This verification process can take a few minutes — this is normal. Do not remove the USB drive or turn off the device during this time.
Tip: If the Updater app does not detect the firmware file, double-check that the file is in the root directory of the USB drive and is a valid firmware package for your SeekBox model.
Step 5: Wait for the Installation to Complete
The firmware installation takes several minutes. During this time:
Do NOT unplug the power cable or remove the USB drive.
Do NOT turn off your SeekBox or exit the Updater app.
A progress bar will be displayed on screen — wait for it to reach 100%.
Once the installation is complete, a "Reboot" button will appear below the progress bar; select it to restart.
The first boot after an update may take longer than usual (up to 5 minutes) — be patient.
Warning: Interrupting the firmware update process can brick your device, making it permanently unusable. Always ensure stable power during the update.
Step 6: Verify the Update Was Successful
After your SeekBox boots up, confirm that the firmware update was applied correctly:
From the home screen, go to Settings > About or Device Preferences.
Check the Build number or Firmware version.
Verify that the version number matches the firmware package you installed.
Test basic functions (streaming apps, Wi-Fi, remote control) to ensure everything works.
Safely remove the USB drive from the SeekBox.
Step 7: Official Security Recommendations
After updating the firmware, follow these official security recommendations to keep your SeekBox safe and protected:
Do NOT install APKs from unknown sources. Apps downloaded from unofficial websites, file-sharing links, or random forums may contain malware, viruses, or spyware that can steal your personal data or damage your device.
Download third-party apps from Google Play only. The Google Play Store has built-in security scanning through Google Play Protect, which helps detect and remove harmful apps. Whenever you need a new app, search for it on Google Play first — this is the safest way to install software on your SeekBox.
Do not share your device with untrusted sources. Avoid letting people you don't know install apps or make changes to your SeekBox settings. Unauthorized modifications can introduce security risks.
Keep your SeekBox firmware up to date. Official firmware updates from SeekBox include important security patches. Check for updates regularly through the Updater app to ensure you have the latest protection.
Important: SeekBox is not responsible for any issues caused by installing third-party APKs from unknown sources. Damage caused by unofficial software may void your warranty.
